Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Lookout Bill Gates, here comes Giorgetta Varra!
Giorgetta had her inaugural showing of her crafts, "Created by G" at the Potter CarBowl craft fair, and it couldn't have gone better. The Kimball County 10-year-old, daughter of Matt and Mia Varra, has the entrepreneurial spirit.
The young business girl said there was a "very big turnout and my booth was very diverse." She also credited her big sales with the fact that she stayed in her booth and told people her story.
Her story is a result of a 4-H entrepreneurship program, which focuses on life skills including leadership, citizenship and communication.
Giorgetta explained that she loves to craft and paint and her products are a variety of unique items. Her inventory includes resin jewelry such as earrings or pennants with Nebraska wheat and flowers embedded in the jewelry.
"All of the stuff I sell I have made myself." she said. "I like to find items from the ranch to use. I recycle lots of items. Every product that I make, I learn a new skill."
In addition to her jewelry, she also has horseshoe jewelry racks and painted mason jars. She began making her craft items during the winter months.
Giorgetta said she not only learned new crafting skills for her business, but how to "price and market her items." She also felt like she has "enhanced her talking to other people skills."
Her goal is to "run our family ranch" – no doubt that will be a stepping stone to her many accomplishments.
