Banner County Notes: Extension Offices Open With Safety Restrictions

Good morning Banner County! We are almost out of June but not finished celebrating.

Father’s Day is this coming Sunday, June 28th. Bar-b-ques, fish fries, and water come to mind. The lakes are always popular, especially when our weather turns so hot. Swimming pools are great too.

I don’t know about the pools in Kimball or Scottsbluff, but the Gering Pool opened the 15th and the general population, or open swim hours, are from 1-5 p.m. and from 6-8 p.m. They have added a deck area, which consists of 8,000 square feet of temporary fence donated by Van Pelt Fencing. A name there attached to many Banner County folks.

Speaking of Banner County folks, we are sadden to report of the passing of long time resident Jim Heilbrun. Our condolences to his family.

Many local farmers deal with either the Extension Office in Kimball or Scottsbluff, some with both.

The Scottsbluff Extension Office re-opened June 15th.

For an appointment, please call in advance at 632-1480. You need to wear a mask, or they will provide one for you. They also have an outside drop off box for samples or submissions, which they would appreciate you placing in a plastic bag. Labeling materials will be available at the drop off. Also, please indicate who needs to view the sample and leave your name and telephone number in case they need to contact you.

The Kimball Extension office also is open with similar restrictions.

As you know, the Riverside Discovery Center has re-opened (yeah) and on the 20th of June, this Saturday, they will host Respite FUN Day for children with Special Needs and Their Siblings. Respite providers will be on hand so that parents may enjoy some free time. This event is Free, but preregistration is required. If you need more information please call 308-432-8190.
