Pizza Hut Reopening; Lake Oliver Packed Over Holiday Weekend
Oliver Lake was an active place, pandemic or not, as it was overflowing with campers on Memorial Day weekend. The cold and windy weather caused some people to abandon their plans and head back home before the weekend was over, but more than 194 campers reportedly were parked at Oliver for the long weekend. Although locals enjoyed the lake, comments were made that many of the campers had license plates from the neighboring states of Colorado and Wyoming.
Some things in our lives are getting back to normal as the Panhandle continues to deal with the coronavirus.
Topping the hit list for Kimball County is the reopening of the Kimball's Pizza Hut.
After a lengthy closing, Pizza Hut is scheduled to reopen on Thursday.
And over the Memorial Day weekend, a reported 194 campers were parked at Oliver Lake.
In addition, the city parks and playgrounds are open and the city is hiring lifeguards/seasonal help. The position will transition into a lifeguard position when the Kimball Public Pool is allowed to open after pandemic restrictions are lifted.
According to a new Directed Health Measure effective June 1, 2020, certain requirements must be met for gatherings at fairground and activities which are part of the county fairs. The Nebraska Department of Agriculture along with other officials has created guidance documents for county fairs and livestock shows.
NDA Communications Director Christin Kamm said, "The county fair and livestock show season is going to look different this year.
Panhandle Public Health reported over the weekend that the Panhandle just reached 100 cases of COVID-19. Thirty-four of those cases are active and in a variety of counties. Scotts Bluff County has nine new cases of the coronavirus, and four of those cases are community spread.
Panhandle Public Health reported, "The investigations are complete. All close contacts will be quarantined and actively monitored twice daily for fever and respiratory symptoms by public health officials. There are no community exposure sites identified. Exposure is defined as at least 10 minutes, less than six feet apart."
