City Council Votes Yes In Measure For Former Kimball Event Center

The City Council approved a liquor license for the establishment, which will have a lounge and plans to host events after the pandemic.
Kimball City Council conducted its monthly meeting by way of Zoom on Tuesday, April 21.
In addition to council members using this method, residents may also use Zoom or dial in by telephone and listen to the meeting. All the information for the Zoom meeting is available on the City of Kimball website and in the Observer in the legal notices.
The 17-minute meeting included a public hearing, a resolution and their regular business.
A public hearing for a liquor license began at 6:04 and closed at 6:08. After the public hearing closed, the city council voted on the license and it was approved by 4-0 giving a Class 1B (beer, wine, distilled spirits on sale, beer off sale only) liquor license to The Sagebrush, LLC at 615 E. 3rd St in Kimball. This is the former Kimball Event Center.
According to Dawn Moser the lounge and events at The Sagebrush will start at the beginning of June if the situation with COVID-19 stabilizes.
Current business included a vote on placing a restriction on the amount of time from completion to application of a grant project. The Citizen's Advisory Committee recommended a 120-day limit from completion to application. The council approved the new regulation by 4-0 vote.
Resolution 2020-4 will close Highway 30 on both May 8 and May 15 between the hours of 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Nebraska Department of Transportation approved the closing as the Kimball-Banner Kiwanis have organized a parade for the Kimball High School seniors on those days.
City Administrator Dan Dean was present for his last city council meeting. Dean, who will retire effective May 1, thanked the council for everything the past three years.
Dean's report mentioned that the Board of Public Works has provided a 5% discount for the entire April City bill in response to the COVID-19 crisis.
Interviews applicants to be the librarian at the Kimball Public Library are in the process of being conducted.
The Spring Clean-Up for the city also has been cancelled due to COVID-19.
The council's next regular meeting will be at 6 p.m. May 19.
