Kimball City Council Approves New Home For Fitness Equipment

On Thursday, March 12, the Kimball City Council accepted the proposal from SK Hayes LLC to lease the fitness equipment housed at the former Kimball Event Center.

SK Hays and Heather Entingh submitted proposals. According to the winning proposal, the renovated Longhorn building will be the location of the new fitness center.

The proposal said there will “be 4,500 square feet of space with individual women’s and men’s bathrooms that will have showers and changing capabilities … The plan includes private rooms that will allow for private fitness classes and/or scheduled massage therapy.”

The proposal stated that the anticipated opening would be in the middle of May.

A large number of Business Infrastructure and Facade Improvement grants were approved of by the city council, while only one Facade Improvement Grant was declined.

Those grants which were approved included Hays Roofing and Siding for electric work, plumbing, HVAC and windows. Dale Green received some grant money for signage, The Sagebrush received a New Business Incentive Grant, and Karen’s Kitchen received help from an Infrastructure Improvement Grant.

In addition, the city completed the sale of two lots in Kingswood Addition, authorized the alley behind city hall to be designated as one way, vacated the alley at GRI, and signed a resolution which confirmed the conveyance of the event center.

Mayor Keith Prunty reported that City Administrator Dan Dean will retire in May and the city is actively spreading the word for a replacement.

The meeting began at 6 p.m. and was adjourned at 6:35 p.m.

The next city council meeting will be April 21.
