Voncele G. Brown was born in Kimball, Nebraska, on April 14, 1939, the daughter of Mearle "Jack" and Joyce (Birt) Newport. The family lived in Kimball and Vonnie helped the Brothers family in Dix and attended school there.

She was married to Virgil D. Brown in Kimball on July 5, 1956, where they made their home before moving to Casper, Wyoming, then to Craig, Colorado, for several years before moving to San Diego, California, where she was living at the time of her death.

Vonnie was very ingenious with different things around the house and always made sure her family had what they needed. She enjoyed baking for others and giving gifts, and always made sure there was something special for holidays and family traditions.

She was very social and always enjoyed her family and friends and would remember them with cards for all their special occasions. She relished things that represented family and community and her love for America. Her church and faith were a very important part of her life and she made wonderful friends wherever she was.

Survivors include her children Ron Brown of San Diego, CA., Greg (Ori) Brown of Poway, CA, Brenda (Emil) Sabate of Killeen, TX, and Wayne Brown of San Diego, CA; brothers Doug (Jacque) Newport of Cheyenne, WY, and Sid (Gloria) Newport of Peru; sister Eleanor Sterman of Pine Bluffs, WY; grandchildren Ashley Bennett, Dominic Brown and Shauna Smith, Daniel Bergeron and Victoria Bergeron, Jake Brown, Rachel Brown and Becky Jo Brown; and 10 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son Donald Brown, son Glen Brown, brothers Nate and Kenneth Newport and sister Star Newport.
