What A Week In Local Sports

Wow, did we have some outstanding individual sports happenings this past week.

Britton Culek won a Northern Colorado Wrestling championship besting a strong 24 wrestler bracket to bring home the championship from Thorton, Colorado!

Stephen Bateman won the 285 pound weight division at the Garden County Wrestling Tournament to give Kimball High a champion!

Alexis Lulf bowled a perfect 300 game at the Kim Bowl to become Kimball’s first ever Woman 300 bowler! Be sure and read all of these interesting stories.

Don’t Forget Katie Heeg

One more story concerning top Highlights of a Kimball High athlete from year 2019 before we put that year to rest. How about Katie Heeg qualifying for the Nebraska Girl’s State Golf Tournament in her first year in the sport? You won’t see that happen very often and in the future in the sport look bright for the young sophomore. Currently she is involved as a very important member of the Kimball High girl’s basketball team.

Kimball Wrestling Club

Thanks to Hannah Snyder for providing me with results of the Kimball Wrestling Club from the Battle in the Bluffs Tournament held in Scottsbluff this past Sunday.

Starting with the Pre-K division, Decker Culek was 3rd at 35-38 pounds with a record of 1-2. Jonathan Rohde was 3-2 at 39-42 pounds. Shayson Howington 0-2 at 39-42. Able Kuhns 0-2 at 43-45. Dakota Rohde 2nd and 4-1 at 46-51. Arizona Rowland was 0-2 at 52-55. Chance Johnson 2nd and 3-1 at 52-55. Noah Hinton 4th and 2-2 at 52-55.

In the 1st-2nd grade division, Jace Reich was 4th and 2-2 at 53 pounds. Nash Burback was 1-2 at 56 pounds. Trajan Johnson was 2nd and 4-1 at 59 pounds. Christian Soto was 1st and 3-0 at 59 pounds. Everett Rowland Was 0-2 at 70 pounds. Kasyn Snyder was 3-2 at 70 pounds.

Bentley Stull was 0-2 in the 3rd-4th grade division at 85 pounds. Cameron McGinnis was 0-2 in the 5th-6th grade division at 90 pounds.

Coming Up

Looking at this week’s sports schedule, basketball on the home court this weekend as Kimball High hosts Bridgeport Friday night with JV game times at 4 p.m. followed by girls varsity at 5:30 and boys varsity to follow. Music parents will hold a Baked Potato Bar feed. Gordon-Rushville is at Kimball Saturday with early games beginning at 2 p.m. for the JV followed by girls and boys varsity. An added attraction is the Mini Cheer Camp kids performing.

The Kimball High Wrestlers will be in action at the Chase County Tournament with a 9 a.m. start time on Saturday.

The SPVA Basketball Tournament begins Monday with girls play and boys start on Tuesday. Play continues all week and moves to North Platte Community College site Thursday through Saturday.

Kimball Junior High boy’s basketball starts up Tuesday with Kimball travelling to Burns with a 4 p.m. start time.
