Geography Bee On The Map In Banner

Good morning, welcome January!

This week we are talking about events scheduled up until next Wednesday, which is January 15 already! My, oh my. Hard to believe.

So backing up just a bit. This Saturday, January the 11th, the Banner County Wildcat high school wrestlers will be heading to Garden County for competition and the speech team will be competing in Scottsbluff.

On Monday, January 13, three band members will be going to Alliance to compete in the Oregon Trail Honors Band, and the school board will meet in the school cafeteria at 7 p.m.

Safe travel and good luck to each of you.

Tuesday, you are invited to watch the Geography Bee at the school, which will involve 4th-8th grade students and begin at 8:45 a.m. This is usually conducted within several classrooms, and as far as I know this is still the way things are done. It might be a good idea to find out for sure at the office when you go in.

Birthdays this week are: Sandy Beals, Steve Brown, Josh Schmidt, Isabella Yazdgerdi, David Baker, Paula Johnson, Brogan Cross, Luke Olsen and Michelle Lind. Happy Birthday!

Elsewhere in the country, the Wyoming Wheat Growers will hold their annual meeting in Albin at the Albin Community Center on Thursday, January 9 – Today! – beginning at 8 a.m.

The open house at the Western Arts Center for the exhibit “Artists of the Black Hills” will be on the 9th, also from 5-7 p.m. This is Free and open to the public. The exhibit will run through January along with “The Redo Project: Recycle, Repurpose, Reuse.” If you would like more information, please call 632-2226. The Arts Center is located at 108 E. 18th in Scottsbluff and is open Tuesday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday  and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

The folks out at the Legacy of the Plains Museum will host “Puzzles of the Past” on Friday the 10th at 9 a.m.

The Fry Street Quartet will perform at the Midwest Theater at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14. This is a string quartet playing chamber music.

At the Gering Library this week, story time will be on Wednesday the 15th at 10 a.m., and the Lego group will meet at 3 p.m.

Well, that is it for now, so I will leave you saying that I hope you have a great week. Take care until next time.

Barb Cross is at 436-7152.
