Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

2019: Going Out Like A Lion

This past weekend's winter storm hit the Kimball area with gusts that kept Old Glory flapping fully extended and the University of Nebraska flag twisting in the wind Sunday next to the Carr Spirits building on South Walnut Street.

Local snow accumulation didn't reach the several inches or more once forecast, but snow and ice made driving dangerous on Highway 71 south of Kimball, where a blinking sign advised motorists to reduce speed due to slick roads. Similar conditions were widespread across the region.

Blowing snow also caused near white-out conditions on Interstate 80 and other roadways.

Plows were busy clearing snows over the weekend and back at it again early Monday morning.
