Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
Trey Schindler at 145 pounds and Joseph Burris at 152 pounds were double winners for Kimball High Wrestling Team at the Kimball Triangular Wrestling Meet held this past week, involving Chase County and Leyton along with the hosting Kimball Longhorns. With limited numbers on all 3 teams, there were several open weights and double forfeits along with unmatched weights.
Coach Wade Brashear commented on the evening.
“I was happy with the way we wrestled,” he said. “It is hard to get matchups for everyone when there are low numbers on teams. We also wrestled several exhibition matches, and for example, Matt Johnson re-wrestled the Chase County opponent and avenged his earlier loss with a 4-2 victory. Ilian Serrano is also not listed as he can only wrestle JV this year and wrestled very well and is showing great improvement. Trey Schindler and Joe Burris had solid outings for us.”
Chase County won over Kimball 30-18 thanks in large part to forfeit wins at multiple weight classes. There were only 4 matches on the mats with both schools winning 2 matches. Matt Johnson lost his match at 106 4-2 to Miscles of Chase County and Connor Cluff lost to Biesecker of Chase County 7-5. Schindler at 145 pinned Vitosh in 2:17, and Burris pinned Mollender in :38 seconds. Stephen Bateman at 285 won by forfeit.
In their match with Leyton, Kimball won 30-18 and Schindler had a great night with his second pin of the evening coming against Tretter of Leyton in 1:29. Burris at 152 won by forfeit, as did Bateman at 285 and Johnson at 106. Connor Cluff at 132 won by fall over Abbott of Leyton in 5:03.
The Longhorns were back on the mats this past Saturday, December 21, at the Bridgeport/Sidney Tournament held in Bridgeport.
They return to action on January 11 at the Garden County Tournament.
