The Beat Goes On In Banner As First Snowfall Approaches

Good morning Banner County, at least so far.

As I write this, we are preparing for our first winter snow.

Yuck.

I am never ready, and won’t be until about Dec. 24.

Too bad, too sad for me; here it comes anyway!

Here are a few things going on that will help keep you busy this week, mostly indoors.

Today, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. there will be a Science on Screen discussion and screening of “Between the Folds,” which is an overview of origami as an art form.I myself have always thought of origami as such.

However, this is also about the influence of origami on modern science and technology.

This will be free and is open to the public and at the Midwest Theater.

On Friday, Oct. 11, Hay Days will once again be open out at the Discovery Center and it scheduled again on the following Wednesday, Oct. 16. You will need to call them for the hours.

Also on the 11th, the folks out at the Legacy of the Plains Museum will be working on Puzzles of the Past, and their number is 436-1989.

Pink Pumpkins will be available again out at the B.E.Farms in Bayard in support of Festival of Hope. They will open on Saturday the 12th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on the 13th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Local

Activities

Here in our little patch of the world, today, Oct. 10, the Banner County School cross country team will have district competition in Sidney, while the rest of the students will have an early dismissal at 1 p.m. The parent/teacher conferences will be held from 2-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The Book Fair will also be in operation during that time.

On Friday, Oct. 11,we see the high school football team headed to Maxwell for a game beginning at 5:30 p.m. -- and for everyone else we will have no school.

On the following Saturday, the 12th, the junior high girls have a MAC volleyball tournament at Minatare.

The Book Fair will continue on Monday, Oct. 14, and the monthly school board meeting will be taking place on that evening at 7.

As always, the board will meet in the school cafeteria and you are all invited to come and join in.

On Wednesday, Oct. 16, the junior high volleyball and football students will head to Leyton, where the girls will play at 1 p.m. and the boys will follow at 2 p.m.

Good luck and safe travel to all of you, and for any information you may need please call the school at 436-5262.
