Farmer's Day And Kimball Community Trail Bike Race Defy The Weather

The weather didn't look too promising, but eight children and two adults participated Saturday in the Farmer's Day and Kimball Community Trail bike race.

Jon Heidemann desigmed the 5-mile and 3-mile routes, helping organize the small races and accompanying the adults around the trail. Parents and volunteers also helped watch the street corners, stood at the railroad crossing and timed the events.

Gavin Williams did the 10-mile race, and his time was a little under 1 hour.

Getting an absolute accurate time was difficult due to stopping for the train and other factors. Gavin and Jon did the last lap in the rain.

Dave Haack, Farmer's Day co-grand marshal with his wife Susan, won the 5-mile race with about 33 minutes.

The children raced on 2nd Street toward Washington and back. In the 7 and under category, Christian Soto-Young placed first with a time of 2:33, Alli Cook was second with 2:42, Gage Noel was at 2:45, and 4-year old Sunter Blocker was fourth.

In the 8-10 category, racing from Chestnut to Washington twice, Josh Malson won with 7:08, Wyatt Cook was second with 8:11, Tray Cook finished in 8:50, and Payton Thacker was at 9:43.

Christian and Payton both did the 3 mile race too with times of 19:23 and 24:42.

All bikers had a good time and observers had fun watching them.
