Longhorns Shut Out Southwest In 42-0 Win

The Kimball High football team made a long Friday night trip to Bartley pay off with a 42-0 win over the Southwest opponent in 8-man football action.

With the win, the Longhorns evened their record at 1-1 going into tomorrow night’s home encounter with a very strong visiting Dundy County team

The Horns controlled the game from start to finish scoring twice in the opening quarter and taking a 34-0 lead to the locker room by half time.

Christian Allen-Van Pelt, who scored twice in the contest, opened the scoring on a 3 yard run with 8:31 left in the 1st period. Brayden Tyan ran the score to 12-0 on his 9 yard run with 2:25 left in the opening quarter, but the Horns were not successful on their PAT pass attempts on either TD.

In the 2nd quarter, Allen-Van Pelt scored again on a 4 yard run and then ran in the conversion to go up 20-0. Brendan Walker tallied the 3 final touchdowns on quarterback carries going in on a quarterback sneak from inside the 1 yard line with 3:25 left in the 2nd period, and a couple of minutes later he did it again from 6 yards out and then connected with Austin Lulf on the 2 point conversion pass for the 34-0 margin at halftime.

In the 3rd period the scoring for the night was completed when Walker ran for an 11 yard TD and Jacob Withrow ran in the conversion for the final tally of 42-0. Both clubs ran 44 offensive plays with Kimball ending with 294 yards of offense and Southwest 103. Kimball ran 38 rushing plays for 237 yards averaging 6.2 yards per carry, and Walker hit on 4 of 6 passes for 57 yards with 1 interception.

Kimball’s defense held Southwest to 1 of 7 passing and minus 1 yard. The Horns had 2 turnovers losing 1 fumble and the 1 interception while Southwest lost 3 fumbles on the night. Kimball had 18 1st downs to 5 for the host team.

A big night for Brayden Tyan carrying the football as he finished with 145 yards on 12 rushes for a 12 yard average and 1 touchdown. Walker had 8 carries for 51 yards and 3 touchdowns.

Coach Aarestad was able to give his backup players some action, including freshmen Justin Klosterman, who had 7 carries for 14 yards and Trey Schindler with 3 carries for 17 yards. Allen Van Pelt had 6 carries for 3 yards net and 2 touchdowns, and Withrow had 2 carries for 7 yards.

Withrow had 2 catches for 32 yards, Lulf 1 for 17 yards, and Allen-Van Pelt 1 for 8 yards. Withrow had 2 punt returns for 14 yards and Tyan 1 kickoff return for 12 yards.

The Horns never had to punt the entire game. On defense the top tacklers were Allen-Van Pelt with 4 solo stops with 1 tackle for loss yardage. Izaak Rohde had 3 tackles and 2 assists, Beau Hanks was 2 and 4, TreySchindler 4 solo stops, Brayden Tyan 2 and 3, Arthur Laveran 3 solo stops and 1 assist, Brendan Walker 3 tackles, Jacob Withrow 2 and 2, Jared Barnes 1 and 2, Justin Klosterman 3 assists, Stephen Bateman 2 assists, Austin Lulf 1 assist, Brayden Schildhauer 1 assist, and James McGinnis 1 assist. It was a complete team victory with everyone turning in a good effort.

An early kickoff tomorrow of 6:30 with Dundy County.
