Bikers Git-R-Done: Horseshoe Pits Ready For Farmer's Day

A local motorcycle club has opted for volunteer work in the evening instead of riding their motorcycles.

The club is in the process of restoring the horseshoe pits at Gotte Park just in time for Farmer's Day.

The Red Knights Motorcycle Club, Kimball Chapter, has logged 20 plus hours in replacing sand, the pit edging, backer boards and they have installed new pipe post. A new fence will also be put up to replace the old dilapidated chain link fence.

The Farmer's Day Committee partnered with the The Red Knights to fix up the horseshoe pits.

According to Red Knights member Mark Whetham, the Red Knights is an international firefighter-based motorcycle club. The Kimball chapter has been in existence more than eight years and has about 30 members.

Active and retired fire personnel from all branches – including "volunteer, career, military and industrial" – belong to the Red Knights.

"We ride as often as we can," Whetham said.

The Red Knights also held a poker run on Saturday, Sept. 7, as a fundraising event for the Kimball Youth Baseball Association. The event began and ended at Beer and Loathing.
