Carl W. Bateman

Carl Wayne Bateman, age 83, of Kimball, Nebraska went home to be with the Lord and the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann (Betty) on April 24, 2019. Memorial services for Carl will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2019 at the Kimball Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Hod Boltjes officiating. He was born September 27, 1935 in Edson, Kansas to John Henry and Doris Louise (Elliott) Bateman. He graduated from Edson schools and worked at a nursery/greenhouse and as a milk delivery driver prior to working for the OK Tire and Rubber Company in Goodland, KS. He was offered a transfer to manage the OK Tire Store in Kimball NE and after visiting, he stated "That's probably the last place on earth I would like to live" but after falling in love with the community, he made Kimball his home for 50+ years.

He married Elizabeth Ann Reid on September 23, 1956 in Goodland Kansas. They raised their family of 6 children and were very involved in the community. After owning and operating his tire store for over 40 years, he and Betty retired in time to enjoy spending time with family, taking vacations and cruises and spending time in each other's company.

He was very active in his church as a deacon, worship leader and Sunday school teacher for many, many years. He enjoyed gardening, antiquing, garage sales and auctions. He was a member of the Lions club for many years and served as president for 2 years.

Carl is survived by his children: Roxann (Bateman) and James Watkins, Brookings, SD; Randall and Kathlene Bateman, Lincoln, NE; Christine (Bateman) and Kevin Bradbury, Greeley, CO; Carlene (Bateman) and Kent Roberts, Medellin, Columbia, South America; Daniel and Laura Bateman and Kara (Bateman) and Steve Schadegg, Holdrege, NE. Grandchildren; Jennifer Watkins, Jordan Watkins, Matthew Watkins, Tyler Watkins, Ryan Bateman, Casey Bateman, Shane Bateman, Samuel Bradbury, Tanner Roberts, Cort Roberts, Stephen Bateman, Sarinda Bateman, Cory Koetter, Shelby Koetter and Mathew Schadegg. As well as, 8 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, F. Louise (Bateman) Barnes, Austin, MN.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Betty, his parents Henry and Doris Bateman and his brother John L. Bateman.
