'Stock Market Game'

Ten Years, 33 Trophies And Many Great Memories

In 2000, Mrs. Laurie Janicek started a tradition with the Mary Lynch fifth graders, and it has continued for the past nine years since 2010 - the tradition is playing and winning at the Stock Market Game.

The Stock Market Game is sponsored by the Nebraska Council on Economic Education and played by hundreds of students across the state.

Once again, Mrs. Janicek's class has placed first in team standing and in class standings, but over the past 10 years, fifth graders from Kimball have placed first every year except in 2017. Overall, they have 33 trophies.

Mrs. Janicek, who is retiring this year, was named Kimball Banner County Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year, Stock Market Game Teacher of the Year 2012 and Mary Lynn Reiser Economic Educator of the Year 2016.

The Fall 2018 team winners were: Joseph Teague, Eddie Duran, Ethan Morrison.

The Spring winners were first place, Emily Mitchell; second place, Trevor Fuss and Maison Holmes; and third place, Jonathan Lewison and Braxton Miller.

For any of those local stock club members, we gained access to some of the winning fifth graders portfolio and here were some of their purchases: MSFT, NFLX, ROKU, SHOP, SPOT, DIS, AAPL, NKE, FTNT, FB, CMG, of course, HSY.
