Track Athletes, Golfers Looking To Finally Get Busy

Not much to report in regard to area high school spring sports happenings, thanks to more winter weather and more cancellations and postponements. The Kimball high golf team did get their first tournament played at Mitchell, and you can catch the results of that in a story in this week’s meager high school sports.

The Western Trails track meet, scheduled for this past Saturday at Bayard, was called off due to the snowstorm and was to be double scored in conjunction with the George Calvert Meet held at Mitchell this past Tuesday. Due to deadlines, we will bring you those results next week. Same thing with the boys golf at Morrill.

There is junior high track at Kimball today (Thursday) with a 9 a.m. start. The Potter-Dix junior high track meet that was to be held at Kimball on April 10 was called off because of weather, but will be held on April 24, so put that on your sports calendars.

This coming Tuesday, April 23, is the Best of the West Track Meet at Scottsbluff, and this is one meet you track fans should be sure to attend. It’s your chance to see the best that Western Nebraska and Eastern Wyoming has to offer. I haven’t seen the official start time yet, but it usually is around 3 or 4 p.m. for the field events.

In an early preliminary list of possible qualifiers for this special event, Kimball had quite a few boys in the running. Brady Kilgore has the top time in the 110 meter high hurdles and is second in the 300 hurdles and third in the high jump. He was also in the top ten in the 400.

The Horns had three triple jumpers in the top ten with Beau Hanks sitting fourth, Christian Allen-Van Pelt ninth, and Zach Wagner 10th.

Thomas Lenzen could be a qualifier in both the 1600 and 3200. Deven Sullivan of Banner County might make it in either or both of these distance races, also.

Zach Wagner is a possible in the 800. Kimball’s 4 x 800 relay team is another possibility.

It’s a little light in the girls department with only Katie Heeg on the list on last report in the triple jump, and the girls 4 x100 relay team is another possibility.

Make note that there will be another update before the final qualifying list is published.
