Sub-District Semifinals The End For Longhorns

The Kimball High boys saw their basketball season come to a close with a 55-39 loss to top-seeded Bridgeport in semifinal play of the tournament held at the Scottsbluff High School this past week.

With the loss, Kimball's season goes into the books at 7 wins and 14 losses.

It was the third meeting of the season between the two teams. The Horns gave the highly touted Bulldogs a scare early, but faltered down the stretch.

In this final meeting, Kimball trailed 14-10 at the quarter break and were down 25-21 at halftime, but a disastrous third period in which the Horns were outscored 18-7 led to their downfall.

Other than at the foul line, where Kimball was 6/18 for 33%, they shot respectfully well – making 14/35 from the field for 40% including 5/14 on 3 point attempts for 36%. They out rebounded the winners, 27 to 22, had 5 steals, 6 assists, 16 fouls and 20 turnovers.

The Horns had eight players get in the scoring columns, but only Beau Hanks hit double figures with his team high 12 points including 2 treys.

Brayden Tyan and Sam Cajero both tallied 7 points and both hit 1 trey. Brady Kilgore had 4 points, Izaac Reuter 3 with his trey, Brendan Walker 3, Zane Anthony 2, and Corey Travis 1.

Walker was top rebounder with 8, while Hanks and Travis both pulled 6 boards each.

Hemingford had won over Bayard 73-59 in the other semifinal contest, but Bridgeport took out Hemingford 91-54 in the championship game to advance them into a District playoff with 15-9 Battle Creek.

Bridgeport will take its 22-2 record to the District playoff set to be held in Broken Bow.

In the win over Kimball, Bridgeport was led in scoring by Drake DeMasters with 18, Kaleb Lussetto with 15, Logan Nichols 12, Luis Garza 4, Cole Faessler 3, and Jake Wallesen 3.
