Federation Wrestlers Gear Up For State

Wrestlers from the Kimball area are gearing up for state tourney time and heading to as many tournaments as possible.

On Feb. 23, Ethan Bibbey of the Tri-State Grapplers attended the Laramie Cowboy Club Tournament,and went 3-0 to finish first in the 6 and Under, 42 division.

Also on Saturday, three grapplers attended the Hershey Youth Wrestling Tournament. In the 1st-2nd 45 division, Jesse Gortney placed first and scored 18 team points. In the 1st-2nd 59 division, Jax Thurin placed second and scored 15 team points. In the 3rd-4th 60 division, Cable Botha placed first and scored 20 team points.

Sunday, Feb. 24, brought another day of wrestling. Two Grapplers made the trip to Columbus and two wrestlers to Gering for the 6th annual Chuck Deter Classic.

In the Columbus Wrestling Anchor Tournament’s 1st-2nd 58-64 division, Jax Thurin placed fifth and scored five team points. In the 3rd-4th 56-59 division, Cable Brotha placed first and scored 40 team points.

At the Chuck Deter tournament hosted by Gering Wrestling Club, Jesse Gortney placed second and scored 22 team points in the 8 and Under, 45 division. In the 8 and Under 70 division, Zakary Mossberg placed fourth and scored three team points.

Many of the Kimball Wrestling Club youngsters attended the Chuck Deter Tournament as well.

In the 4 and Under 35-40 division, Able Kuhns placed fourth and scored four team points. In the 4 and Under 47-49 division, Chance Johnson placed second and scored four team points, and Kimball’s Zaidyn Fischer placed third behind Johnson.

In the 6 and Under 40 division, Laivyn Morgan placed fifth.

In the 8 and Under 55 division, Trajan Johnson placed sixth and scored nine team points. In the 8 and Under 55 division, Christian Soto-Young placed fourth and scored 11 team points.

In the 8 and Under 65 division, Kasyn Snyder scored three team points.

In the 10 and Under 107-115 division, Hunter Lonsdale placed fourth and scored three team points.

In the 14 and Under 70-85 division, Matthew Johnson placed fifth, and in the 14 and Under 145 division, Trey Schindler placed third and scored fife team points.

Teams will ready the wrestlers for the district tournament in Scottsbluff this Saturday, March 2, and then prepare for the trip to Grand Island for State from March 15-17.
