Commissioners Addressing Road Conditions South Of Dix

Numerous items on the Feb. 19 regular Kimball County Board of Commissioners meeting agenda were tabled for additional information, but county road conditions near Dix received considerable attention.

A conference call between Ted Weber of Coughlan Co., the three commissioners, Timothy Nolting, Brandon Mossberg and Larry Engstrom, as well as County Highway Superintendent Dave Hottell, was used to discuss milling seven miles of County Road 59 south of Dix.

Weber discussed two different approaches for the seven-mile stretch that has seen better days. The first approach was to grind the current material, compact it and then put gravel on top of the road stretch –making this seven miles of the road gravel.

The second approach was to grind, then compact the material, then to add port cement to the mills and to chip seal the road to leave it as black top.

The board will at a later time decide which route is the best solution for the ongoing road problem south of Dix. Then, once a plan of action is decided, the project will be advertised for bids.

Also on the agenda was Andy Bremer, chairman of the County Veterans Service Committee, to present a committee recommendation regarding the hire of a Kimball County Veterans Service officer.

The committee voted on the recommendation of Fred Weideberg, Sidney Veterans Service officer, to be in the office approximately two days per month with Darcee Wheeland still serving as the Veterans Service office assistant.

“Darcee has got us going in the right direction and the asset of Fred will only continue to improve our office,” said Bremer.

A decision has yet to be finalized until a wage agreement can be made.
