Cluff Adds One More State Win To Resume

Jordan Cluff and Toby McManigal, Kimball High's two state qualifiers for the 2019 Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament, failed to make the medal stand at Omaha, but can add the experience to their list of athletic accomplishments at Kimball High.

Cluff, a senior, who was making a repeat trip to the big show, garnered one more win but suffered two losses as well, ending his season at 26-11. In his first match Jordan won 11-10 over Reeves of Battle Creek in his 113 pound weight division, then lost 14-4 to Mueller of Logan View, and lost 11-10 to Vondra of Boone Central-Newman Grove.

McManigal, also a senior, making his first trip to the state finals, wrestled in the 220 pound weight class and had a tough first round match losing by fall to Merten of Boone Central-Newman Grove in 1:23, and lost by fall in :34 seconds to Simmons of Centura, winding up 16-15 on the season.

Commenting on the performance of his wrestlers, coach Wade Brashear said "Jordan won his first match in a close decision scoring an excape as time expired. Toby wrestled the soon to be state runner-up in the first round and had another great 220 pound athlete in his second round. Jordan lost his quarterfinal and came back to wrestle another tight match in consolations, losing by 1 point in the end. There was definitely some controversy on how his final match ended, but nonetheless, he was eliminated". Coach Brashear went on to say "I want to thank the parents of this year's wrestlers for their support. We should be growing in numbers over the next few years in our program.

Wrestling takes a great deal of time, and effort, I want to wish our two seniors the best of luck in life's new adventures".
