A Winter Sports Season To Soon Wrap Up

February 21, 2019

I enjoyed being a part of the Kimball boys win over Morrill this past Monday night in a game held at the Scottsbluff gym. Both schools had a good following and tournament atmosphere always adds a bit extra.

The Kimball Cheer Team, under the direction of coach Tiffany Dea, put on a great half time performance, and I assume it was one that they used this past weekend where they won two championships in the Nebraska State Cheer competition, held in Grand Island. The Kimball team was the best in Non-Tumbling and Game Day. Congrats, and thanks for your show on Monday.

Some good news and some bad also, involving Kimball’s Mike Daum and his South Dakota State basketball team. Mike had his usual productive game against UNO in the game played in Omaha, scoring 29 points while going 3/8 on treys and 8/9 at the line, but the Jackrabbitts lost 85-84 on a last second shot.

Two days later on Saturday, SDS won over North Dakota State in the same fashion, 78-77. Mike had 31 points with 3 treys and 8/8 foul shooting and pulled 12 rebounds. The team shot an amazing 20/21 at the line.

David Jenkins was the hero in this win making a long trey just past half court to beat the buzzer, and to get the win.

Our two senior wrestlers from the Kimball High team that qualified for the State Tournament failed to bring home any medals, but still, what an honor to even be a state qualifier. Congrats to Jordan Cluff, who made his second consecutive trip to Omaha, and to Toby McManigal, you created memories!

As our winter sports season winds down, I noticed on the Kimball High sports calendar that next Monday, February 25, is the first official day for spring sports practices to begin. For Kimball, that includes track and field, and boy’s golf
