Head Start's Future Concerns Families

Kimball Head Start parents received a letter last week from Donna Jenne, director of Head Start programs, explaining the possibility of the Head Start facility in Kimball closing.

Jenne stated in the letter that the ESU13 Head Start program is awaiting final approval for its 2019-20 continuation grant from the government.

In an email, Jenne later said that “the Head Start Program is not closing. We will be transitioning some services.”

In any case, changes appear possible.

According to the letter, the Head Start program has found over the past several years that many children who attend the local program are dually enrolled with the Kimball Public School Preschool.

That could affect Head Start’s future here.

The letter continued to state that with the dual enrollment numbers high, the matter has made Head Start team members re-evaluate what grant funding could be best utilized – and where it could be used – in Kimball and the surrounding area.

Services being looked at include those for prenatal mothers and children up to 3 years of age.
