Virginia L. Scarborough

Virginia L. Scarborough, 86, of Kimball, died at the Kimball County Manor on Sunday, January 20, 2019.

Graveside services will be held at the Dix Cemetery at 10 a.m. Monday, January 28, 2019. Friends may call at the Cantrell Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. Friends wishing to view Virginia’s obituary and leave stories and condolences for the family may visit http://www.cantrellfh.com. Memorials may be given in Virginia’s memory to Kimball County Manor Resident Fund. The services for Virginia have been entrusted to the Cantrell Funeral Home.

Virginia Lee Scarborough was born in Pawnee City, Nebraska, on June 25, 1932, the daughter of Orvil and Alma Prouty. They lived throughout southeastern Nebraska.

She moved to Gibbon, Nebraska, where she met her husband. Virginia was married to Byron Scarborough in Raton, New Mexico, on June 30, 1951. They farmed near Gibbon until moving to Dix, Nebraska, in 1952.

While living in Dix, they operated a grocery store for over 21 years. Virginia and Byron enjoyed traveling, and visited most of the Western states, including California, Oregon, Washington and Nevada.

Survivors include her sons Charley and Michael Scarborough of Hulett, Wyoming, two grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Arthur R. Prouty of Las Vegas, Nevada; husband; and daughter Cathleen Scarborough.
