Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
When cleaning out your attic what do you expect to find?
Possibly some family history, some possessions from your childhood.
What about a real hand grenade from World War II?
It happened in Kimball.
According to Kimball Police Chief Andy Bremer, he received a call that was somewhat out of the ordinary Sunday, Jan. 20.
A Kimball resident, whose name was not released, was cleaning out the family home's attic on East Third Street near Gotte Park, when the WWII grenade was discovered.
A call was made immediately to Bremer to report the object and seek proper disposal.
A bomb disposal unit was then called in from Scottsbluff to join local law enforcement on the scene and help safely remove the grenade.
What they found was a device that was at one time a working grenade. The powder had been removed, but not all disposal steps were followed.
