Paramedic Michael Downey Named KMS Employee Of Year

A talented paramedic with a knack for not only emergency medicine but also for finding things is the Kimball Health Services Employee of the Year for 2018.

Michael Downey, a paramedic who's also taken the reins of the KHS Purchasing Department, received his award at the hospital's recent Christmas party and employee appreciation dinner. His name was chosen by the hospital's Employee Outreach Committee from among all employee of the month award winners in 2018.

Downey received three nominations for his award in March from KHS staff members Ashley Schievelbein, Courtney Vyhnalek and a third who wished to remain anonymous.

"Mike is always willing to help out in the ER and on the floor when the nursing staff is busy and needs an extra set of hands. He is a great asset to the team," Schievelbein wrote.

"Mike is always very helpful on the floor and with ERs," Vyhnalek added. "Every time I see Mike working, he also cleans the paramedic room as well!"

"Mike always helps out on the floor with the EDs and helps clean out the paramedic room each time he works," wrote the anonymous person.

Downey's employee of the year award includes an award certificate, $50 in Chamber Bucks, eight hours of paid time off, an employee of the year pin, and a framed photo in the hospital.
