Potter-Dix Boys

Potter-Dix Coyotes are looking for some shots to start falling in the near future. The Coyotes played in Iliff last Friday, Dec. 14 looking for their first win, yet were stopped short in a effort against the Caliche Buffaloes.

Potter Dix fell 35-75, on top of the Buffaloes after the first period 15-13 the Coyotes were nearly shut out in the second period scoring only two points to Caliche’s 17, entering half time with a score of 17-30.

“The second quarter, we continued to get good looks at the basket, but the shots wouldn’t fall like they did in the first quarter. Defensively, we did a lot of good things in the first half holding a very tough Caliche team to 30 points,” said Coach Ryan Mumm.

After half time Potter-Dix score another 16 points to Caliche’s 19 but still trailed to finish the third quarter. 33-49. A big fourth quarter for the Buffalo’s came as they outscored the Coyotes 2-26. For a final score of 35-75.

“s the second half progressed, and especially the fourth quarter we just ran out of gas. I was extremely proud of the way the team played. The effort and attitudes were great throughout the game, we made a lot of good plays on both ends of the floor,”

Freshman Anthony Tovar was on top in the points category scoring nine, followed by Jared Anton, Terell Gray with seven, Brandon Mendoza with four, Grant Hickman with three, Izaak Glanz with three and Preston Corfield with one.

Tovar and Anton led boards with six total rebounds each, followed by Mendoza, Hickman, and Niko Koon with three. Gray and Sheign Krafczik each had two and Corfield had one.

After a tough loss to Caliche the night before Potter-Dix faced off with Arthur County in another road game. The Coyotes fell to the Wolves 68-32.

Once again the Coyotes came out on top in the first quarter putting up 30 points to the Wolves 20, but were shut out in the second period 0-19 heading into half time with a score 30-39. Yet again in the third period the Coyotes were shut out with the Wolves scoring 11 points, the fourth quarter the Coyotes fell short again 2-18 for a final score of 32-68.

“Saturday’s game it was evident that the team was physically and mentally drained from the game the night before. Offensively, we struggled to find a rhythm and defensively we weren’t able to stop Arthur,” Mumm added.

Hickman led the scoring for the Coyotes with 16 points followed by Anton with five, Gray with four, Tovar with three and Krafczik with two.

After a holiday break the Coyotes will get back to game action on Friday, Jan. 4 at home against Bayard.
