In an earlier game this season, coach Luke Dea goes over game plans with his Kimball high boys prior to the start of the game. The Longhorns will be on Christmas break now until January 3rd when they face Sidney.

A disappointing weekend for the Kimball High boys as they dropped games to Hershey and Bayard on consecutive nights of home court play. The Horns saw their season record fall to 2-4 with a Friday night loss to Hershey by a score of 66-53, and a Saturday evening loss to Bayard of 51-35.

Hershey came to Kimball with just 1 loss and showed the fans why as they are tall, and talented, and playing the style of ball coach Dustin Jorgenson desires with aggressive defense and control offense.

Kimball got off to a good start with 7 payers scoring in the first period of play and the Horns leading 17-15 at the quarter break. It was a good quarter of basketball from both teams and the fans were entertained. It stayed close in the 2nd period as Hershey took a 2 point lead at half time with the clock showing 27-25.

The game was tied at 27-27 to start the 3rd quarter with Beau Hanks scoring on an inside move, and tied once again at 32-32 on a rebound put-back by Sam Cajero but from that point on Hershey took control and scored the last 8 points of the 3rd period to lead 45-34 entering the final stanza.

Kimball battled hard to the final buzzer but once again their shooting was not what they needed although the percentage was better than perhaps usual at 38percent, from the field. The Horns were 18/48 including 1/6 on 3 point attempts for 17percent, and shot 16/32 from the line for 50percent. They charted 29 rebounds, had 4 steals, 6 assists, 13 turnovers, and 21 fouls with both Brady Kilgore and Brendan Walker fouling out.

Beau Hanks and Brayden Tyan led Kimball with 15 points each. Tyan had 1 trey and shot 60percent from the field while Hanks shot 50percent at the line and from the field. Izaac Reuter scored 9 points and led Kimball in rebounds with 10. Zane Anthony, Brendan Walker and Sam Cajero all tallied 4 points, and Corey Travis contributed 2.

Hershey had 21 field goals including 4 treys, were 20/30 at the line, and had 21 fouls. Cayden Spearman had 15 points with 3 treys, Nolan Benjamin 15 going 11/15 at the line, Dawson Seamann 11, Andrew Weitzel 8, Jacob Gosnell 14, and Eli Huebner 3.

The Kimball boys have adequate height but it seems they face teams with taller players most games and Bayard has height, just like Hershey did. Another good opening quarter for the Horns as they led 14-13 at the end of the opening period with Beau Hanks accounting for 8 points. The 2nd period was low scoring with Bayard netting 9 to Kimball's 3 giving the Tigers a lead of 22-17 at the intermission break. Kimball was experiencing poor passing and poor shooting.

Both clubs put up 13 points in 3rd quarter play but Bayard put the game away out-scoring Kimball 16-5 in the final 8 minutes. The Tigers made their foul shots down the stretch and Kimball failed to do so in once again a night of terrible shooting.

Kimball was 13/51 from the field for 25percent going 2/13 on 3 point shots for 15percent and were 7/16 at the line for 44percent. The Horns pulled 41 rebounds including 20 offensive but didn't score on the put backs. They also charted 2 blocks, 5 steals, 7 assists, 22 turnover, and 17 fouls.

Hanks had a solid game with 16 points including 1 trey, completed his double-double with 10 rebounds, had 2 blocks and 2 steals. Reuter had 8 points and 6 rebounds before fouling out with 5:09 remaining. Kilgore hit 1 trey and had 5 points, Tyan 4 points and 6 rebounds, and Cajero 2 points.

Bayard had 17 field goals with 6 treys, were 11/16 at the line, and had 15 fouls. They were led in scoring by Jack Kildow with 13 including 1 trey and 6/7 foul shooting. Payton Oliverius had 12, Daeton Blanco 11, Justin Whitebear 6, Dawson Kriha 4, Ryan Liakos 3, and Lane Hargens 2.
