Goodies of all colors, shapes and SIZES

Members of the Kimball Baptist Fellowship Teen and Tweens group have decided to open their hearts once again this Christmas season and bake some goodies to add to the Helping Hands Food Pantry distributions for December.

Helping Hands Food Distribution days are the third Saturday of every month, from 9-11 a.m.

Karen Payton of the church has recruited a few young ladies to bake, and bake they did! They filled 100 plates with eight different items, from snicker-doodles to sugar cookies, fudge and even hand-crocheted Christmas star ornaments.

The kitchen of the church was full of love and laughter the past two weekends preparing for this Saturday's distributions.

"We are here for any resident of Nebraska that needs a little help to get through the week or a few days," said Betty Elliott, a church member. "It's not enough food to get through the whole month, but it is enough to hopefully help in between paydays or in a tight spot."

Along with all these goodies from the youngsters, the Helping Hands food distribution effort purchases food from Food for the Heartland out of Omaha, a USDA facility.

"On average, we help 40 to 50 families a month out of those 50 families. It is close to 117 individuals we are helping," she said.

"We are always looking for any kind of donations," Elliott said.

With a Main Street Market receipt goal of $100,000, Elliott asks that anyone who doesn't have one of the many other great organizations to donate their receipts to consider the church. As of last weekend, the church has collected nearly $87,000 in receipt totals within the past two years.

"We are so close to reaching the goal of $100,000, if we can reach that (amount) the money we will receive will go towards purchasing more food items for the distributions," she said.

"We welcome everyone to join us for the food distributions as well as our worships," she said.

Food distributions are every third Saturday of the Month, a day before Sunday School at 9:30 a.m. and Worship at 10:45 a.m. on Sundays.

Kids Club, meanwhile, meets on Wednesdays at the church at 7 p.m. with two different age groups.

"We want to encourage all children to become a part of this group. It is a great time for the kids to have fun," Elliott added.
