Jock Talk

The Fall Sports season is over for the Kimball High athletes as the Kimball Lady Longhorn volleyball team lost to Bayard in 5 sets Monday night in sub-district tournament play. The Lady Horns made a strong run at Bayard before losing with scores of 25-14, 23-25, 25-23, 8-15. Bayard advanced to the finals with the win and was to face Bridgeport for the sub-district title.

The High School athletes will get a short break before they move into winter sports practice which officially begins on November 12 in Nebraska. The Kimball junior high sports teams will keep you fans entertained in the meantime as the wrestlers have already begun their season at the Harrisburg tournament this past Saturday and hosted their own tournament this past Tuesday.

The junior high girl’s basketball begins this coming Tuesday, Nov. 6, at Pine Bluffs with game time at 4 p.m.

A local reffing crew got word from the Nebraska School Activities Association that they were awarded a playoff game and they worked that first round contest that saw Minatare win out 81-20 in a high-scoring affair. Members of the Kimball based crew were Randy Bohac – referee, Andrew Bohac – umpire, Henry Heeg – line judge, Gene Mohr – linesman and Jake Daum – back judge.

With the weather cooperating, and with the greens healed up pretty much out at the Four Winds Golf Course, the Kimball Thursday Night Men’s Golf League season came to a close this past week with the two-man team of Kevin Thomas and Gary Haack winning over the father-son team of Mark and Jake Daum. The other final golf match that was completed saw Tom O’Brien defeat Mike Coleman in the individual play.

This completes all league play for the season which started back in April with 52 players that played 11 weeks of match play, had eight fun scrambles, and hosted and organized the annual Father’s Day Tournament. My personal thanks to Randy Bohac for providing me with info through out the season.

A reminder to all golfers that the Four Winds Course remains open and that Four Winds Pro, Chad Wise, urges everyone to come out and take advantage of the final weeks of play when the weather allows.
