Janiece J. Wertz

Janiece J. Wertz, 83, of Kimball, died at her home in Kimball on Friday, October 12, 2018. Memorial services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018 at the Kimball Fellowship Baptist Church in Kimball with Pastor Dennis Payton officiating. Inurnment will be held in the Kimball Cemetery Friends may stop at the funeral home on Thursday from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. to sign the register book and leave condolences for the family. Janiece "Joy" Wertz was born in Newport, Nebraska on September 19, 1935, the daughter of Frank and Huldah (Davis) Wondercheck. She was raised and helped her parents on the family farm near Atkinson, Nebraska. She graduated from high school in 1953. She worked for Offut Air Force Base and Pennelton Woolen Mills. She moved to Chadron with her sisters in 1956. Joy was married to James Edward Wertz on February 1, 1957 in Chadron. They moved to Miltonville, Kansas while Jim was going to Seminary School. They lived in several places along I-80 while Jim was working for Missouri Valley Construction building the new interstate. Joy was working as a homemaker taking care of her family. They settled in Kimball in 1969. Joy worked as a housewife and devoted mother and grandmother. She was a fantastic cook and enjoyed making meals for her children and grandchildren and many of their friends. In 1996 Joy's daughter Shari was in a catastrophic car accident, she then became full time caretaker for Shari and her children. She had an enduring and faithful love of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. She was a member of the Kimball Fellowship Baptist Church. She loved to read and study the Bible. She was a great cook and enjoyed canning things they raised in the garden.

Survivors include her husband Jim Wertz of Kimball, NE; sons Alvin D. Wertz of Kimball, NE., Allen G. (Lisa) Wertz of Denver, CO., Wayne (Judy) Wertz of Cheyenne, WY; daughters Sharlene Drake of Kimball, NE., and Michelle (Doug) Barrett of Kimball, NE; daughter-in-law Mitzi Knaub of Alliance, NE., and Marcia Wertz of California City, CA; sisters Rita (Sid) Boe of Devils Lake, ND., Bessie (Bill) Gallino of Crookston, NE., and Nancy Garringer of Kearney, NE; grandchildren Dr. Christopher (Michelle Stearnes) Drake, Amanda Drake, Dianna (Dan) Walters, Frank (Sara Wertz), Heather (Michael) Pittinger, Justin Wertz, Jessica (Ryan) Eggli, David (Kiersten) Barrett and Andrew Barrett; 13 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters Beulah Johnson, Viola Jackson, LoRee Mott, Vesta Taylor, Wilma Francis; brother Oscar "Bud" Wondercheck; daughter-in-law Cherie Thompson and grandson Brandon Wertz.
