Longhorns suffer 46-20 loss to Hemingford

In a hard hitting physical contest that sent several Longhorn players hobbling to the sideline, the Kimball High football team suffered a 46-20 loss to visiting Hemingford this past Friday night. This leaves the Horns with a 1 win-3 loss record coming into this week's Homecoming game with Perkins County.

The Horns Found themselves behind on the score board quickly as Zane Anthony was hit hard on the opening kickoff and coughed up the football which Carter Bucheit picked up and ran in from 20 yards out with just 10 seconds ran off on the score clock. Brian Turek ran in the conversion and the visiting Bobcats had an 8 point lead with 11:50 showing on the 1st quarter clock.

Anthony, who always gives great effort, came right back with a 19 yard touchdown run following an onside kick that gave the Horns a short field but the conversion run failed leaving Kimball trailing 8-6 with 9:41 to go 1st period. Hemingford would score twice more in the opening period to lead 24-6

Kimball tallied the first points in the second period with Izaac Reuter connecting with Brayden Tyan on a 16 yard touchdown pass and Reuter then hit Austin Lulf with the Conversion pass to close the gap to 24-14 with just 9 seconds ran off the clock in the 2nd quarter.

Hemingford would score one more time in the second quarter to take a 30-14 lead at half time, and then scored the first TD of the second half on pass play that covered 12 yard and ran in the conversion to go up 38-14. Kimball's final score came on an 18 yard run by quarterback Izaac Reuter but the conversion run failed once again. The Bobcats would score one more time on a 20 yard run by talented sophomore Brian Turek to make the final score of 46-20.

The winners dominated in the stat department running up 381 yards of offense to 247 for Kimball. They ran 62 plays to Kimball's 49 and had the football 7 more minutes than the Horns. The Bobcats chose to stay on the ground for the most part with 60 rushing attempts for 369 yards and attempted only 2 passes with 1 going for a 12 yard touchdown. Kimball was 8 of 14 passing for 143 yards and 1 touchdown. The Horns had 2 turnovers on lost fumbles and the Cats had 1.

Turek also had the touchdown pass to Bucheit.

Zane Anthony was Kimball's top rusher with 54 yards on 14 carries with 1 touchdown. Reuter had 31 yards on 9 carries with 1 touchdown. The Horns did have some spectacular catches on the night with Jacob Withrow charted with 2 catches for 60 yards. Anthony 2 for 55 yards. Tyan 2 for 31 yards and a touchdown. As mentioned, Reuter was 8 of 14 on the night for 143 yards passing with 1 touchdown and no interceptions.

Jacob Withrow 2 and 2 Christian Allen-Vanpelt 0 and 5 and Ethan Greenwood 1 and 3. You fans will be treated to a day time game this week with a 1 p.m. kickoff set for tomorrow's contest with visiting Perkins County. It is also Homecoming with half time crowning activities scheduled. Perkins County had to forfeit their game last week with Morrill due to lack of numbers, but at the time of this writing it looked like they would have enough players to go through with tomorrow's game. Coach Aarestad could also be short of players himself with the number of injuries that occurred in the Hemingford game to his squad.
