Childs found guilty of repeated harassment

According to court documents, on May 17, 2018, 90 year-old Mary James of Dix, placed a harassment protection order on Kenneth Childs of Dix, for harassment that has been taking place for some time, according to James.

Court proceedings for a violation of the harassment protection order ended Tuesday, Sept. 25, with a jury trial at the Kimball County Courthouse at 10 a.m.

According to court documents Childs violated the harassment protection order on May 24.

At trial, District Attorney Dave Wilson stated that Childs was walking back to his house when James pulled up behind him on the street located in front of their homes. Wilson continued that Childs then turned to see James then continued to walk into her driveway blocking her way onto her property.

James’ has surveillance cameras on her property, a video of this event was provided as evidence to the court on Tuesday.

According to his attorney, Stacy Bach, Childs, a neighbor of James, had been cleaning his trailer down the street from both of their residences. When he finished cleaning and was walking back to his home with a bucket and a mop, he was honked at from behind and turned to see who it was.

Following testimony the jury deliberated until approximately 12:15 p.m., returned to the courtroom and found the defendant, Kenneth Childs, guilty.

Childs was sentenced to 120 days in jail, but was credited for 120 days already served, plus court costs.
