Kimball Lion's Club helps screen students for sight and hearing concerns

The Kimball Lions Club conducted their yearly Hearing and Vision Screening last week for the students at Mary Lynch Elementary and Kimball Jr./Sr. High School.

The screening is a free service offered by the Kimball Lions Club in conjunction with the Nebraska Lions Foundation and BlueCross Blue Shield of Nebraska.

A total of 212 students were screened, with 28 being referred for vision follow up and 23 referred for hearing.

Hearing is referred when there is a 25% or greater loss in a child. Both hearing and vision referrals are handled by the school nurse who does a follow-up screening or notifies parents of the findings.

Variables are taken into account, such as age, family history, size, general health and awareness of a potential problem.

The Hearing and Vision Screening is offered annually to all Kimball public school students pre-K through third grade and freshman and sophomore students.
