Potter-Dix Football counts on returning leadership this season

Heading into his 14th year coaching for the Potter-Dix Coyotes Football team, Head Coach Dale Frerichs is ready to get the season kicked off with some newcomers that he is sure will add some speed and athleticism to the roster.

Along with Frerichs, Assistant Coach Ryan Coffey will return for another year for the Coyotes on the sidelines.

Last year the Coyotes finished 1-7 overall, this year loosing three valuable seniors Dylan Nielsen, JT Herboldsheimer and Connor Williams. But Fererichs has additional talent of the newcomers, senior Grant Hickman, who joined the Coyotes last season but was unable to play due to transferring to late in the year. Izaac Glanz, Jacob Brown, Kyle Evans, Tai Rogge, Anthony Tovar, Jared Anton and Conner Glanz. And also returning starters, Michael Steele 2nd Team All District DL, Donnie Moench All-District running back, Brandon Mendoza and junior Terell Gray who as a freshman ran the ball 34 times for a total of 134 yards and two touchdowns. Gray caught 11 passes for a total of 73 yards and added 212 total yards as well as 207 all-purpose yards.

The sole returning starter for the Coyotes this season is Shawn Waggoner the Coyotes are heading into the season with their hopes high for this season.

Quality leadership is a key factor that Frerichs expects returning players build upon and express to the younger players. Along with leadership Frerichs is expecting his returning players to continue to build and improve from last season.

After a long off-season of conditioning Frerichs is ready to see what the offense and defense has in store for this season.

"With our new additions we will have more speed, if we can be fundamentally sound those both should lead to increased scoring," Coach said.

"Again with more speed, and get our defensive fundamentals right, this should lead to less scoring for our defense."
