Library remains a social center of the community

Back to school time is just around the corner and the Kimball Public Library has many activities planned for all ages.

Activities include a weekly Wednesday Preschool story time with 10-16 children attending. Club Next, the after school program is Tuesday afternoons with 16-24 children. According to Jan Sears Kimball Public Library Director the library staff is in partnership with the UNL Extension staff and they learned about pets, healthy food and also a variety of things following the Extension programs. The adult Brown Bag Book Club meets monthly on the second Tuesday of the month at noon, attendance is around five to six adults.

The Library Board has also hosted the fourth annual 5K run with a biking segment. According to Sears this was the largest event so far with over 30 participants.

A new event on the calendar is the Jigsaw Puzzle Contest with 20 teams participating.

Library staff is in the process of planning continuing programs and creating new learning experiences.

The Friends of the Kimball Library continue to support the library through the fundraising events of the Annual Book Sale, Mystery Dinner Theater and the Wine, Chocolate and Coffee tasting, and a newly formed Library Gift Shop. The gift shop works with local artisans to expose their work and offer different products to the community and is planned to create some income for the Friends/Library.

According to Sears, the Kimball Public Library is a vital cultural center for our community with links to many different organizations. We have had tremendous support from the City of Kimball to provide excellent service to library users. The Library Board of Trustees, staff and patrons of the Kimball Library have greatly appreciated this support, The Library Board and staff will continue to strive to provide the best up-to-date service to the people of Kimball County.
