Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

One of the bigger event weekends of the golf season has arrived with the annual Father’s Day Classic 3-person scramble to be held this weekend at the Four Winds Golf Course. This is your last chance to sign up your team for play this Saturday and Sunday.

The format calls for a shotgun start of 12 noon on Saturday, followed by an evening meal at the Windbreak Restaurant of “Chef’s Choice”. Play on Sunday begins at 9 a.m. Your $100 entry fee gets you two days of golf, entry into the skins game and the Saturday evening meal. There will be a chance to buy-in for additional Day Monday.

A Hole-In-One prize is again being donated by Mike Winstrom and his staff at Panhandle Auto. This tournament was started some 50 plus years ago by members of the former Kimball Country Club, and is now organized by the Thursday night men’s league. No handicap is needed as flights are determined from the first day’s scores. There will be 9 flag prizes each day. Call the Four Winds Pro Shop today at 235-4241 and get your team registered.

At the recent tournament hosted by Kimball at the Four Winds, Dillon Wise won the boy’s grade 10-12 division with his solid round of 73. Tristen Zitek was runner-up with 82, Zane Anthony was 4th with 83, Brendan Walker 5th with 84, Izaac Reuter 6th with 86 and Cole Henton 8th with 93. In the boys grade 6-7, Tayten Zitek won the 9 hole competition with his score of 50. In the girl’s division for grades 10-12, Kimball’s Payton Wise, was 3rd with her 93 round.

Not many of our local golfers made the Bridgeport Tournament, but Cole Henton was 5th in the older boys division with a round of 103.
