Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

The 2018 Nebraska State Track Meet is now history and we had some outstanding performances from our immediate area of athletes who made the trip. You can catch those results in another story in today’s observer Sports. Unfortunately, as you read this week’s Observer, the State Golf Tournament will also be history, but our deadline for our weekly paper is Tuesday and that was the first day of the tournament which concluded on Wednesday. We will give you our report, and our version of how our awesome Kimball Team did next week.

I can tell you that the team departed Kimball Sunday and got in a practice round at the Kearney Country Club golf course Sunday afternoon, and another practice round on Monday. I texted Dillon Wise, our District champion, and asked him how the practice round went for him and the other guys and he said, “Good.” He said they didn’t keep score but everyone hit some good shots.

The Thursday Night Men’s League and the Four Winds Men’s League had their annual pre-season golf scramble this past Sunday at the Four Winds Golf Course and it certainly was a good day for the golfing Daum family. The winning first place team was made up of Mark Daum, Randy Bohac and Bob Kellner. Second place was the two-man team of Jake Daum and Steve Linn and third place was Chuck Christensen, Dave Lukassen and Colton Daum.

------------

Randy Bohac informs me that the Thursday Night Men’s League is set to begin play May 31 with 24 teams signed up. League play will run for 11 weeks, followed by the season-ending tournament play.

Randy also put in a plug for the annual Father’s Day classic on June 16-17. The usual 3-man scramble format. It is a great time to spend time with sons, fathers, and grandfathers on a great golf course as friends meet up and try to outscore each other.

---------------------------

Also, the Member-Guest weekend of golf is scheduled for June 2-3 at the Four Winds and Four Winds Pro, Chad Wise, has a fun format all set for you golfers. You can get all the info on this event by calling the Four Winds Pro Shop at 308-235-4241. Get signed up today while you are reading this. With all of the rain we have been having, the course is very lush and is waiting for you to come and enjoy.

I don’t have any information yet on the baseball-softball leagues and schedules, but I know they have had sign-ups already. I think the same thing is happening with soccer. You good people in charge are encouraged to send some info and I will pass it along to our readers.
