Kimball Community Trail Project marches onward

Have you seen the activity and equipment working at the City dam property on County Road 22 on the south edge of town? What's going on out there? The Kimball Community Trail Project!

Kimball Area Foundation Fund members have been working with and coordinating city employees, to clean up trash and abandoned metal and wood piles, and numerous volunteers who are donating their time, efforts and expertise to this grassroots effort. They are blazing out a walking/bicycle trail, a future dog park and a remote control vehicle track. No motorized vehicles or horses will be allowed on the trail. Trees have been planted on the south edge of the property and more will be planted around the trail as the project progresses. Benches and shaded areas will be placed along the trail thanks to the Erin Aerni memorial fund. Additional trail loops will be added as the project progresses.

Howard and Peggy Atkins have set a challenge to the community to match funds they will donate to the project. After seeing an article ranking Kimball as one of the least healthy communities in Nebraska, they have teamed up with Kimball Area Foundation Fund to challenge fellow residents to contribute to the effort to make Kimball a better place to live and create a more inviting community. They knew Kimball didn't have a hiking trail but the City had an unused tract of land. The project has been approved by the Kimball City Council and the Kimball County Commissioners.

Together we can fulfill the need for the Kimball Community Trail! Please consider supporting this initiative that will benefit the residents and visitors of the Kimball area. Tax deductible donations for the trail can be made through the Kimball Area Foundation Fund. Gifts accepted can be in the form of monetary donations, memorials or ag donations. Donations can be a one-time transaction or set up to come out of checking or savings accounts on a set schedule.

"You ought to give some back," Howard Atkins said. "If we get the word out, maybe other people will realize they can donate some of their money to the community and have something to be proud of."
