Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

The weather is still playing havoc with our area sports schedules and our Kimball High Track athletes had their meet at Morrill cancelled this past Saturday because of the winter-type storm that rolled into the area. Now, a select few that made the list for the Best of the West meet held this past Tuesday at Scottsbluff, will get some action and the entire squad will go to Sidney tomorrow (Friday) for the SPVA conference meet that starts at 9 a.m. The Junior High tracksters will be at Burns tomorrow (Friday).

The Kimball High track athletes who made the honored list for the Best of the West meet include, Brady Kilgore in 3 events, including the 110 meter and 300 meter hurdles, along with the high jump. Hannah Biesecker and Megan Spicer will compete in the long jump, Sam Bemis in the triple jump, Paycen Harroun and Jaden Mohr in the pole vault and the girl’s 4x100 relay team of Spicer, Biesecker, Bemis and Jenna Greenwood.

Potter-Dix will be represented by Trinity Langley in the high jump and Payge Hoffman in the long jump. Banner County has MaKenna Dahlgrin in both the shotput and discus, along with Deven Sullivan in the 3200.

Due to an early afternoon Tuesday deadline for all news and sports, the results of our area athletes will be listed next week.

Mike Daum has announced that he has declared for the NBA Draft. The former Kimball High standout, who has excelled at South Dakota State University, still has one season of college eligibility left, but since he is not going to hire an agent, he will still have the option of playing another season of college basketball if he doesn’t go NBA. He would have to withdraw from the draft by June 11 to make this work.

Mike said, “I am excited to pursue my dream and see where this process will take me.”
