Coyotes return lots of track and field talent

Spring-time is here, at least according to high school sports. Potter-Dix Lady Coyotes Track and Field team is gearing up for another great season. Head Coach, Dale Frerichs, is entering his second year as head coach, with three returning state qualifiers, including, senior ,Payge Hoffman, in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles and the long jump, senior Trinity Langley in the triple jump and junior Jessica Gingerich in the 400 meter run.

Other returning letter winners include junior, Michaela Rotert, in the 1600 and the 3200, with best times of 7:13, and 16:03. Junior, December Wright, competing in the 100 meter hurdles, with a time of 20.88, the 300 meter hurdles with a best time of 62.88, and in the pole vault with a height of six feet and six inches. Sophomore, Virginia Herboldsheimer, will be returning in the 200 and 400 meter with a time of 31.24 and 80.

Newcomers for the Lady Coyotes will be seven freshmen including, McKynna Deeds, Kelsey Hoffman, Mary Kasten, Mikayla Lee, Fedalina Schuessler, Erica Smith, and Reagan Williams.

Coach Frerichs is excited about the coming season with many returning letter winners and a bunch of new faces.

The Lady Coyotes finished as Conference MAC and District D-9 runners-up. "Our main goal is to compete everyday and finish in the top half at conference and districts once again," added Frerichs.

The Potter-Dix boys kick off the 2018 Track and Field season with Coach Dale Frerichs entering his second year as Head Coach for the Coyotes.

Returning letter winners for the Coyotes are senior, JT Herboldsheimer, in the 400 meter, and the 1600 meter run, with last years best times of 63.14, and 6:06. Also returning this season is senior, Connor Williams, in shot put and discus with best marks on the 2017 season were 32"5" and 92'6".

Potter-Dix has one junior letter winner returning for the 2018 season, Michael Steele, competing in shot put and discus, as well, with last years marks at 36'3" and 92'6". Sophomore, Terrell Gray, will be competing for the Coyotes again this year in shot put and discus, as well, with last years marks at 36'1" and 99'2".

Newcomers for the Potter-Dix Coyotes include two juniors, Grant Hickman in sprints and Gage Soucie, who will be running mid-distance and distance. Five freshman will be coming into their high school Track and Field career. Preston Corfield, will be competing in pole vault and mid-distance. Hulsey Lingerfelter will also compete in pole vault, sprints and mid-distance. Brendon Mendoza in sprints and mid-distance, Donnie Moench in pole vault and sprints. Tai Rogge will be competing in the long jump, high jump and sprints for his events.

According to Frerichs, the team has added some more depth this year, so the outlook for the Coyotes may change throughout the season. "With so many new faces, we will have the kids try different things to see where they fit best," said Frerichs.

Frerichs says the team goal for the Coyotes this season is to compete everyday and to finish in the top half of the conference and district.

The Potter-Dix Coyotes finished seventh in their MAC conference last season and ended the year finishing eighth in the D-9 district.
