ACE return earmarked to honor local veterans

What will an additional $4,000 do for the community of Kimball?

This is a question facing the Kimball City Council as the Public Alliance for Community Energy (ACE) board has approved a disbursement to Kimball totaling $4,281.98 through ACE’s revenue return program.

According to a recent press release, ACE has returned more than $50,000 to Kimball since 1998, money that has been used for a variety of improvements, including new banners, flags, the gazebo and kiosk at the Kimball Cemetery and new swimming pool outdoor furniture.

The 2017 return totaling $3773.70 was saved and earmarked to add to the current return for a large project, according to Kimball Mayor Keith Prunty.

The City of Kimball will partner with Kimball High School Industrial Arts students and VFW Post #2243 to design and build a military memorial in a local park.

Flags from each branch of the service will be displayed, Prunty said, and he hopes that a kiosk similar to that at the Kimball Cemetery will be included.

“It will be a huge community thing. I would like to get that up this summer,” Prunty said. “People can enter their veteran’s information into the kiosk to be memorialized forever.”

The year marks the 20th that ACE has been in the Nebraska Choice Gas Program. Residents are reminded that the selection period this year will be April 13-26. Selection forms will be mailed out to all eligible customers before that time.

Any local non-profit organizations hoping to raise funds can distribute door hangers for ACE, Prunty added. Last year the Friends of the Goodhand Theater completed the project. For more information, contact the City of Kimball at 308-235-3639.
