Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
A big win for the Kimball High Lady Longhorns in their final regular season game and they got that win over visiting Hemingford in front of their home court fans, winning out 57-50. It was also Senior Parent’s Night for the two remaining seniors capable of playing and they closed it out in fine fashion. Hanna Biesecker led Kimball with 23 points and Justine Heeg hit double figures with 11, as they led their team to victory.
The visiting Lady Bobcats were in control the opening half, leading 14-11 at the quarter break and 29-25 at half-time, but Kimball put together a good third quarter, outscoring the visitors 15-8 to take a 40-37 lead into the final 8 minutes of play. The Lady Horns continued to play strong in the 4th quarter, out-pointing Hemingford 17-13 to secure the win.
“It was good to see us put together a strong third quarter as this has been hurting us in other games,” said Coach Pedersen. “We also cut down our turnovers to just 11 and that was a big plus,” he said.
Hanna Biesecker hauled in 8 rebounds to go with her 23 points and Heeg had 9 boards with her 11 points. Biesecker netted 3 treys and Heeg 1. Carli Wudeman had 9 points, Sydney Biesecker had 6 with 1 trey, Madison Wynne 5, Megan Spicer 2 and Sam Bemis 1.
Kimball was 14/27 at the foul line, while Hemingford was 19/27. Kimball was whistled for 19 fouls and Hemingford 21. Anna Manning and Kate Varner had 6 points each, Josie Steward 5 and Kyla Walker 4.
With the win, Kimball closed out their regular season with a 6 win, 15 loss record. They moved into sub-district tournament play, where they were to face Bayard in their first round pairing.
