Nathaniel Mars was recently named 2017 Nebraska Young Artist of the Year.

One of Kimball's own, Nathaniel Mars, has just received notice from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Hixon-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts that he has been selected as a 2017 Nebraska Young Artist of the Year.

Mars is the son of Pastor Kenneth and Vickie Mars and has studied piano since the age of five with Patricia Randolph.

According to Randolph, the Nebraska Young Artist awards annually recognize eleventh grade students who are gifted and talented in the areas of visual arts, music, dance and theater. These students exemplify the pinnacles of creativity in one of the fine and performing arts. Teachers from across the state nominate students and the students submit an example of their work.

Nathaniel performed the first movement of Sonata in E minor. Grieg Huxon-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts faculty choose those students who will be recognized as Nebraska Young Artist of the Year.

Randolph also added that this is a great honor, which only about four students are chosen each year. Nathaniel is one of a small number of piano students across the state to receive this honor. He and his parents and teacher are invited to attend the award recognition day at UNL on April 4.

Congratulations Nathaniel!
