Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First

Jock Talk

The basketball season is drawing to a close for our area high schools and tomorrow night (Friday) is the final home game for the Kimball High girls. It is also going to be Parent’s night for the senior girls and for the senior cheerleaders and their parents. Hemingford is coming to town and they always display good basketball so, come on fans, show up and enjoy the evening while you cheer on the kids.

---------------------------------

There is also going to be an Interact Soup Supper to feed everyone.

---------------------------------

There were four senior girls early in the season for Coach Chauncey Pedersen, but due to early injuries, Kaylyn Nelson and Alex Reader were unable to continue, leaving Hannah Biesecker and Justine Heeg as active members of the girl’s team. Also being recognized along with the team, is senior Student Manager, Paycen Harroun.

Four senior cheerleaders will also be honored, including Nicholas Thomas-Lewis, Devin Gardner, Kennedy Lewis and Crystal Pile. A big night for these seniors and their parents! The junior varsity games begin at 4, followed by the girls varsity and the boys varsity.

------------------------------------------------

Other events on the schedule show the junior high boy’s basketball team at Sidney this afternoon (Thursday) with a start time of 3 p.m. and they will also be at home versus Pine Bluffs this Tuesday (Feb. 13), at 3:30 p.m.

---------------------------------

It is also District Tournament time for the Kimball High wrestlers as they try to extend their seasons and earn a berth in the upcoming State Wrestling Tournament. Seniors Jaden Mohr and Garrett Pedersen, will lead the Longhorns into action with their final opportunity to extend their careers. District action is being held at Bridgeport starting this Friday, so Good Luck to our Longhorns!

It is also sub-district Tournament time for the Lady Longhorn Basketball Team as they also hope to continue the season with wins at Gering, where the sub-district is being held. At this time, Coach Pedersen feels Kimball will meet up once again with Bayard on Tuesday evening (Feb. 13), but exact game time was not determined at the time of this writing. This is a problem weekly newspapers face all the time, but go early and be on time. Bridgeport will be the number one seed and will play Hemingford, Coach Pedersen thought. The winter sports season is about to finish out as the boys basketball will be a week behind the girls.
