Observations all along the line - Kimball & the Southern Panhandle First
A tough week for the Potter-Dix boys ends in three losses.
The first of three came against Kimball last Tuesday at home when Kimball outscored the Coyotes 16-7 in the first quarter, and 19-6 in the second. Heading into half time with a score of 35-13 with the Longhorns on top. Second half for the Coyotes looked about the same with Kimball outscoring them 19-12 in the third and 14-4 in the fourth for a final score of 68-29.
Senior Dylan Nielsen scored over half of Potter-Dix’s points with 16 and six rebounds for the Yotes.
The second loss on the week came to conference rival Leyton in a home match.
Leyton put up 12 points to Potter-Dix’s six, in the second period the Coyotes were able to put a few more points on the board adding 12 but wasn’t able to hold the Warriors scoring 16 for the 28-18 score at the half.
Coming out in the second half the Warriors took charge and scored 14 points to the Coyotes two, and finished the game off with another 11 for the visitors and five points for the home team with the final score being 53―25 in Leyton’s favor.
Again it was Nielsen scoring 11 points for the Coyotes with Connor Williams and J.T. Herboidsheimer scoring four, and Gage Soucie, Terell Gray and Grant Hickman adding two.
In a closer battle the Coyotes traveled to Hay Springs to face off with the Hawks Saturday Jan. 13. The score was tied at the end of the first period six to six, keeping it close through the second quarter Potter-Dix out scored the Hawks 10-8 leaving Potter-Dix up 16-14 at the half.
Second half action it was the Hawks, outscoring the Coyotes 12-6 in the third and 17-10 in the final period for a end score of 32-43.
Once yet again it was the senior Nielsen who stepped up and scored 10 of the 32 points for the Coyotes. A great team effort for the Coyotes with Williams adding six, Hickman with five, Sheign Krafczik and Soucie with four, Herboldsheimer with two and Gray adding one.
The Coyotes hit the boards hard in this game with the Hawks, ending with a total of 32 boards, eight for second
chance points and 24 of the defensive side.
The Potter-Dix Coyotes traveled to Bayard to face the Tigers for the first round of MAC play Monday Jan. 15.
The Tigers held the Coyotes to only one point in the first quarter and themselves scored 30 points, the second
quarter Potter-Dix was able to shut out Bayard and score eight points. It wasn’t enough however going into the second half down by 21 points. The Coyotes couldn’t recover from the first quarter of play finishing the game 23-51 adding another loss to the Coyote’s.
