Kimball Girl's Golf adds new athletes

Coach Katie Culek returns for a second year coaching the Lady Longhorns golf team with two returning athletes as well.

Lila Moore and Leisha Casimiro both return to the course as varsity players and will be expected to take a leadership role for the newer members of the team.

"I also expect them to continue where they left off," Culek said. "Lila should be about to make a statement by placing at a few tournaments."

Joining Moore and Casimiro this year are Natasha Selves, who played in 2015 and took last year off from the sport, Raven Johnson, Maddie Cook and Kate Fraser.

The growing team has a lot of confidence heading into the new season, but Culek looks forward to each of them improving their knowledge of the game.

"Our biggest challenge is our young team and that the members of our team have limited or no experience," Culek said, though she named Johnson as one newcomer she expects to have quite an impact due to her initiative, her positive attitude and her commitment to the sport and the team.

"She worked extra hard over the summer to find her strengths and weaknesses and is following up on what needs to be done to be successful," Culek said.

Currently the team is practicing for their first game, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 22 in Sidney. Culek added that the team has a strong long game, both driving and getting distance in the fairway. She is working on improving their short game – chipping and putting.
