County board to hire weed assistant

Never ending weeds here in Kimball County, Rick Wangler, County Weed Superintendent, addressed the board at the Commissioners meeting Tuesday, July 18. Wangler stated he feels like he’s taking one step forward and two steps back trying to keep up with spraying as well as inspections this summer.

With all of the work Wangler continues to do throughout the county, he also takes care of some work within city limits. Wangler added that he is working his days off to try to compensate and attempting to get ahead.

The County Commissioners took all the work needing to be done and the little time into consideration, as well as, the suggestion to hire a sessional position to help spray. The board questioned if it was too far along in the summer to hire, yet Rick said that they will continue spraying until the end of Sept., beginning of Oct.

The board decided it would be in the best interest of the county to open a position and begin taking applications.

Betsy Vidlak, Supportive Health Services Director, Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska, approached the board requesting financial support for the 2017/2018 youth programing, as well as, to talk about the different programs CAPWN has to offer.

Vidlak wishes to get the word out to people in the community who may need help with services provided through the organization.

She was asked to send Cathy Sibal, County Clerk, a request for the financial services so, as the board enters into the budget season, they can consider that request. For more information about CAPWN find the separate story in this edition.

The Commissioners spoke with Christy Warner, County Transit Services Administrator and Human Resources Advisor, about the transition between the Kimball Police Department and the Kimball County Sheriffs Department combining their dispatch.

According to Christy, who is also a dispatcher, “I think it is going good, the transition is going rather smoothly, there are of course some bumps but they will work themselves out, but there is always room to improve.”

The City of Kimball, as well as the County, will have a joint meeting, Tuesday, Aug. 15, at 5:00 p.m. in the City Council Chambers.
