Potter-Dix youth to perform this weekend

The 10th Annual Potter-Dix Children's Theater will perform tomorrow, Friday, July 14 at 7 p.m. at the Potter American Legion Hall.

They will perform "Outta the Ballpark," a unique musical performance that includes classic baseball songs such as "Take me Out to the Ballgame," "Centerfield" and "Go Cubs Go."

The play is dedicated to the Bunker Hill Baseball team, which was an area baseball team in the 1950s that included men from Potter, Brownson, Dalton, Gurley, and Bunker Hill.  The characters in the play have been named after the Bunker Hill baseball players.

"We hope everyone can join the boys and girls of summer for a grand slam of music and fun," said director Kristin Kasten.

In addition to the performance, the theater group will host a silent auction with items donated from area businesses and individuals, a barbecue and a kids craft sale prior to the performance, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

This performance and the additional activities are an annual fund raiser for the Potter-Dix Early Learning Facility, which includes a daycare and a preschool. The PD ELF is a program of Volunteers of America and the director of the facility is Cheryl Holz.

Two dozen young performers, aged 5 – 13, have been practicing since July 3 under the direction of Kristin Kasten and Beth Bogert with costume design by Jodi Enevoldsen.

"They have an abundance of energy and are extremely excited to share this story and music with the surrounding communities. They practice for two hours every weekday for two weeks to prepare for the final performance," Kasten said. "It is amazing what they can accomplish in such a short amount of time. With less than 20 hours of practice, they learn lyrics and actions to seven songs, as well as memorize lines and stage movements. You have to see it to believe it! And they do this for FUN during their summer vacation."

The Potter-Dix Children's Theater group invites everyone to come enjoy a barbecue and a terrific performance by area youth – and pick up a few gift items as well, this Friday in Potter.
