Art journaling combines healing with creativity

Liz Williams, Kimball County’s Panhandle Health Group Peer Navigator, has brought a fun, new wellness tool to Kimball.

Williams introduced an Art Journaling Workshop on Monday, July 3, to a group of six in Kimball, and she said four more participants are expected to join soon. A different topic is introduced each week and a variety of mediums and resources are offered as participants are guided through the process.

Art Journaling is a way to record thoughts, memories and emotions with the use of images, art and words, combining record keeping with creativity.

This group is free to everyone and supplies are provided, according to Williams, and though pre-registration is not required, it does ensure that plenty of supplies are available.

Christine Howlett, a peer navigator in Scottsbluff, has been leading such groups since 2011, Williams said, and has had success in doing so. Howlett is also part of Victim Voices in Scottsbluff, through the local DOVES program.

If the session continues to be successful in Kimball, Williams said that Panhandle Health Group may do a second eight-week session, perhaps with an emphasis on certain emotions or illnesses.

For more information or to join, please contact Williams at 308-235-2282 or visit the group on Monday nights from 3 – 5 p.m. through Aug. 28, at the meeting room located at 414 W. 2nd Street in Kimball.
